It could be the secret to spicing up your love life
To reignite the spark in your long-term relationship, cozy up to another couple.
No, we’re not talking about swinging. Making friends with another couple may help you feel closer to your partner, finds a new study from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Researchers paired duos up in groups of four and had them talk through personal questions, like, “If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be?” and, “What is your greatest accomplishment?” The couples became fast friends with each other, and afterward, they each felt more love for their significant others.
The cool part: The kind of love they felt was what psychologists call passionate love—the feelings of obsession, excitement, and intense longing that consume you in the beginning of a relationship. That generally fades over time, says study author Keith Welker, Ph.D.
“But it can be reignited in response to doing novel and exciting things with your partner,” Welker says.
Watching strangers meet and become friends with your wife or girlfriend may help you see her in a new light, he says. Your new pals may also serve as role models, inspiring you to feel more compassion for your partner.
While the study looked specifically at couple friends, Welker says spending time with any kind of mutual buddy could offer similar benefits.
Couples sometimes forget to socialize with other people as they become more intertwined with each other, the researchers say. But hanging out with others could bring you closer than any Saturday night in together.
