SOUTH BEND — A University of Notre Dame student
was found dead Wednesday afternoon in her off-campus residence in Clover
Ridge Apartments.
Theresa Sagartz, 21, was a junior from Albuquerque, N.M.
An autopsy is being conducted Thursday. Sagartz had a medical condition and it appears the death likely was due to natural causes, deputy county coroner Chuck Hurley said.
She likely died late Monday or early Tuesday, he said.
In an e-mail to students and employees, the Rev. John I. Jenkins, Notre Dame's president, asked that the Notre Dame community keep Sagartz and her family in their thoughts and prayers.
“As a community, we grieve for Theresa and extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends,” Jenkins wrote. “My prayers are with them."
Notre Dame is on spring break this week. When classes resume next week, a Mass will be celebrated on campus in Sagartz's memory.
The University Counseling Center and Campus Ministry are available to offer their support to members of the campus community.
